About West Hatch Scout Group

West Hatch Scout Group

West Hatch Scout Group is an established thriving group of boys and girls that meets from October to Easter at Curry Mallet and Beercrocombe Village Hall. The meetings in the Summer months are held at Huish Woods campsite. The Scout Group provides adventurous activities and personal development opportunities for young people aged 6 – 18 years. Young people can join West Hatch Scout Group in any of the Sections, but places in Cubs and Scouts are prioritised for children in younger sections and at times there may be a waiting list. For more information contact: Stuart Ford-Fennah, Group Scout Leader via email: gsl@westhatchscouts.org.uk

Beavers

Beaver scouts are our youngest members aged 6 – 8 years. They meet on Tuesday evenings from 5.30 – 7pm to take part in a wide range of activities including games, crafts, singing, visits and good turns, along with plenty of outdoor activities. They will also have the opportunity to take part in the fun and excitement of camps and sleepovers. It may be the first time they spend a night away from home so this is a real adventure for them.

Cubs

Cubs are aged 8 -10½ years and meet on Wednesdays from 6.30 – 8pm. Cubs work towards their Silver Award through earning badges and completing challenges that teach them new skills through fun activities. The Cubs also play games and make crafts as well as spending time outdoors. Camps are some of the most memorable events in the year. Some camps are held jointly with the Scout Section from the group, and with other Cub packs in the district.

Scouts

Scouts, aged 10½ -14, years meet on Tuesdays from 7.15 – 9pm. They are organised in patrols of six to eight led by a Patrol Leader. Outdoor activities feature prominently, with the highlight being camping. Throughout the year Scouts learn various skills such as map reading, camp cooking and first aid in preparation for camping. Other activities can include for example hiking, sailing, climbing.

Explorers

Following on from Scouts our young people can join Explorer Scouts (14-18) which is held locally in Taunton. Explorers are encouraged to lead themselves in deciding the programme. Some Explorer Scouts return to the Scout Group as Young Leaders, where they are very welcome!

We have for many years enjoyed a happy, friendly atmosphere and with the help of a parents’ rota the Leaders organise a wide range of activities on meeting nights and weekends.

Members to West Hatch Scout Group pay a monthly subscription, currently £14.
